Erie incorporated on November 16, 1874 and took its name from Erie, Pennsylvania. By 1895 Briggs Street had eleven saloons.

Today about 41,000 people live on both sides of the Weld and Boulder county line, with I-25 to the east and the I-25, E-470 and Northwest Parkway interchange to the southeast.

Historic Old Town

Historic Old Town runs along Briggs Street, where the town’s coal-mining past is still in the buildings. The Erie Community Center, on Powers Street, opened on January 5, 2008.

Trails and the airport

The Coal Creek Trail starts at Vista Parkway and runs through Lafayette and Louisville to Superior. Erie Municipal Airport sits on State Highway 7, about three miles west of I-25.
